Coxing

A coxswain (cox) sits at the stern of the boat, facing the crew, and is crucial for steering and commanding the team. At Hughes Hall Boat Club, we are always happy to recruit new coxes (no prior experience necessary!) as they are an integral part of the team. Coxing offers new students a unique opportunity to lead and motivate a crew, ensuring everyone rows in sync while navigating the Cam. At HHBC, we train our coxes in all the essential skills to ensure a safe and enjoyable rowing experience—from steering to crew motivation. As a cox, you’ll build strong friendships, develop leadership abilities, and play a vital role in your boat’s success! If you are interested in trying out coxing, please reach out to our Head Cox via boatclub@hughes.cam.ac.uk.
